Casa do Arco da Cadeia was once a prison and the Town Hall
Obidos’ former prison is actually one of its most picturesque buildings. It started as the Town Hall in the 14th and 15th centuries, and later, in the 20th century, it was home to painter and scenographer Abílio de Matos e Silva. Part of Abílio’s residence was then the original home of the Municipal Museum, but is now another museum with his name.

The old building, with its gothic arch and windows, can be seen from the terrace next to Santa Maria Church.
